6.4 Links are not programmatically associated to headings (M)
6.4.1 WCAG 1.3.1 (A) - Desktop
The links on the intranet landing page have a visual association as they are grouped together in sections within each heading, but this association is not announced programmatically.
This visual association needs to be available programmatically for screen reader users who navigate the site by interactive elements (for ease and efficiency) so they can understand the broader context of the process and the relationship between form controls and associated labels.
6.4.2 Recommendation
Provide additional context for screen reader users by associating each link to the relevant heading, so users are clearly informed of which element they are interacting with.
This can be achieved using the aria-describedby
attribute as it establishes a relationship between each tooltip and the text that describes it. For more information on aria-describedby
Alternatively, recode these lists as a description list (dl
), so the links are grouped together with the heading, giving the screen reader user more context.
