14.5.1 WCAG 1.3.1 (A), 2.4.4 (A) - Desktop

The Search Courses page includes a list of courses that the user is able to bookmark. There is a visual association between each bookmark link and the relevant course but this association is not available programmatically. Therefore this does not help screen reader users know what course bookmark they are interacting with.

Screen reader users who navigate between interactive elements only hear the text of each element. Therefore, the text should be meaningful and identify the purpose without visual cues.

14.5.2 Recommendation

Change the text for each bookmark so it is meaningful to screen reader users. E.g. Bookmark Undergraduate BSc (Hons) Account and Finance course’’.

This can be achieved using the aria-describedby attribute as it establishes a relationship between each bookmark and the relevant course that describes it. For more information on aria-describedby
