12.8 Chinese language attribute has not been assigned to interactive elements (M)
12.8.1 WCAG 3.1.2 (AA) - Desktop, Mobile
The link text in Chinese characters in the International navigation drop-down menu has not been assigned a lang
attribute for screen readers to identify that there has been a change of language.
If the language of a passage differs from the default language of the page, the passage must have its own language attribute.
When a passage has the correct language attribute, browsers and assistive technologies can render the text more accurately; screen readers can use the correct pronunciation; visual browsers can display the correct characters, and media players can show captions correctly. All users find it easier to understand the page’s content.
12.8.2 Recommendation
Add the Chinese (simplified) language attribute (lang="zh-Hans"
) to the link elements that contains the passage. E.g.
<a href="/International/Thinking of applying cn" target="_self" lang="zh-Hans">... (LJMU)</a>
See HTML Spec on lang attributes.
